I am currently sourcing manager of Alstom and I am now seeking new sourcing/supply chain opportunities due to company reorganization and foreseeable shut down. I ever passed interview as China Sourcing Manager from one of G5 company but ended up with headcount freeze. I've experienced the headcount freeze as well from some other big companies. So I am just wondering what is the best source to obtain job vacancy information. Do you consider it is an effective way to write and acquire information to your linked in contact? What will you react if you receive this email from someone who you probably havn't talked very often?

I have put this in the general forum as well..however, this looks like a more focussed place...

I worked in SCM practice of Infosys Technologies Ltd., for 3.8 years, in the implementation of Sterling SCM software application for world-leading retail-industry clients, in modules like OMS, WMS, Supply Collaboration, Inventory Management etc.

I have quit the job about 6 months ago am now pursuing MBA in Operations Management in a top management institute in India.

I want to make a career in SCM consulting, research space. Not very clear how to go forward. Particularly so since I come from an IT background. I am thinking of gaining more knowledge by doing a focused PGDSCM (Post Graduate Diploma in Supply Chain Management) or a diploma in fields like MM/Logistics/Retail SCM etc., to enhance my knowledge, primarily, and also to boost my future career and placement opportunities.

However, please suggest if it would be too much of a redundancy with the existing MBA that I am already doing. Moreover, please give me ideas on how to model my career in SCM space like:
1. What activities like case studies/live projects etc., should I involve myself in
2. Which courses etc., should I take up
3. Any other advice relating to making best use of my student time of 2 years to gain expertise and boost career chances in the SCM domain...

as I come from an IT background which is a natural drawback if I want to work in a non-IT firm dealing with real world SCM in the near future..
